Social Networking

The internet which was created about 15 years ago is slowly taken over our lives. We would be lost without the use of internet today. The idea of social networking and the internet allows us to have connection with our friends and family members all over the world. The internet is a wonderful thing but has it downfalls. Although the internet is a wonderful idea it has taken over our children’s lives. Things that children would have never been able to see 15 years ago, you now can see the worst things with just the click of a button with the internet. There are also sexual predators out there that are able to reach kids quite easily. Most kids know who to stay away from and know better than to talk to online predators, but then there are those kids who don’t know and can easily get set up for the worse. Social Networking also allows kids to share there problems with other who may have similar problems to them. Although they may feel some type of support this can actually be a bad thing when they begin discussing there problem such as eating disorders and depression. Instead of getting help they might find people who feel the same way as them as will agree with there actions instead of helping them.
There are many ups on the use on the internet as well. It is an easy fast way to access any information you need. You can find almost anything you want on the internet. You are able to talk to your friend via instant messaging, emails. Obama setup a social networking website called www.my.barakobama.com which is known as MYBO. Social networking has helped Obama’s campaign tremendously. The website reached out to millions of fans across the world. MYBO has more of impact on voters today and reached out to more people to get them to vote and voice and share there opinions with others.
Using the internet a very interesting ‘game’ was invented called Second Life. “Second Life was crafted as an open-ended environment that would allow players to fly, drive fantastical vehicles, dress up in outlandish outfits and build just about anything they could imagine. The game's developers at San Francisco's Linden Lab, however, didn't expect it to be used as a way for business school students to test entrepreneurial talents or for abused children to rediscover social skills.” (http://www.wired.com/gaming/gamingreviews/news/2005/04/67142)
Second Life has such a strong impact on people that it could even take over what is your first life your real life. Some people don’t even socially involve themselves with public anymore. They don’t go out and meet people and talk on the phone, they sit behind their computer screens and this is how they live there life. There is no physically activity they do.
Personally I wouldn’t be able to live without the internet since I grew up on it, and it basically what I know. There are times I wish there was no such thing as the internet and it didn’t take over our lives. The internet really helps me with school and many other things. Face book is a type of entertainment for me that was made by having access to the internet. We just need to monitor our children and what they do on they web even though there is only so much we can monitor. We have to raise our kids good and tell them about the downside of the internet and protect as much as possible.
